Before you install
You need:
- Vivaldi on desktop (Windows, macOS, or Linux).
- A YouTube account you are signed in to.
- Two minutes.
Install FolderTube on Vivaldi
- Open the FolderTube listing on the Chrome Web Store in Vivaldi.
- Click 'Add to Chrome' on the FolderTube page. Vivaldi installs Chrome Web Store extensions natively — no separate confirmation needed.
- Confirm the permissions in Vivaldi's install dialog.
- The extension installs and is visible in Vivaldi's toolbar.
Set up FolderTube on YouTube
- Open youtube.com in Vivaldi and sign in if you are not already.
- Click the purple FolderTube button in the top-right of the YouTube page. This opens the FolderTube sidebar.
- Press the sync subscriptions button to import every channel you follow.
- Create folders for the categories you want — Tech, Music, Cooking, anything.
- Drag channels into your folders. A channel can live in multiple folders.
Add real folders to YouTube
FolderTube is free to install. Drag your subscriptions into folders and finally find what you actually want to watch.
Add to ChromeVivaldi-specific tips
Vivaldi has several features that pair well with FolderTube:
- Web Panels — Vivaldi lets you pin youtube.com as a side panel. This is convenient for keeping YouTube + FolderTube visible alongside other work, though FolderTube's own sidebar is meant for full-page viewing rather than the narrower panel.
- Tab Stacks — useful for grouping multiple YouTube tabs (one per folder, for example) without cluttering the tab bar.
- Workspaces — keep your YouTube tabs in a dedicated workspace so they do not get mixed in with work tabs.
Common Vivaldi setup issues
The purple button does not appear
Refresh youtube.com after installing. If still not visible, verify the extension is enabled in vivaldi://extensions and that no other YouTube-modifying extension is blocking it.
FolderTube's sidebar is cramped in a Web Panel
FolderTube's sidebar is designed for full-page YouTube. In a narrow Vivaldi Web Panel, the UI may feel cramped. For folder management, switch to a full tab; once your folders are set up, the Subscriptions page works fine in a panel.
Sync does not pull all subscriptions
Make sure you are signed in to the right Google account on YouTube. The sync uses the YouTube account currently signed in.
Pricing on Vivaldi
Pricing is identical to Chrome. Free plan: unlimited top-level folders, 30 Mark-as-Watched videos per month, 3 channel-video searches per day. Premium: subfolders, custom colors, unlimited Mark as Watched, unlimited channel video search — $2.99/month, $19/year, or $39 lifetime.
