Before you install
You need:
- Opera Browser on desktop (Windows, macOS, or Linux).
- A YouTube account you are signed in to.
- Three minutes (Opera has one extra setup step compared to Chrome).
Enable Chrome Web Store extensions on Opera
Opera has its own add-on catalog, but it also supports Chrome Web Store extensions through a helper called 'Install Chrome Extensions'. To enable it:
- Open Opera and go to the Opera add-ons site (addons.opera.com).
- Search for 'Install Chrome Extensions' and add it to Opera.
- Once installed, Opera can install extensions directly from the Chrome Web Store.
Install FolderTube on Opera
- Open the FolderTube listing on the Chrome Web Store in Opera.
- Click 'Add to Opera' (Opera replaces the usual 'Add to Chrome' button once the helper is installed).
- Confirm the permissions in the install dialog.
- The extension installs and is visible in Opera's toolbar.
Set up FolderTube on YouTube
- Open youtube.com in Opera and sign in if you are not already.
- Click the purple FolderTube button in the top-right of the YouTube page. This opens the FolderTube sidebar.
- Press the sync subscriptions button to import every channel you follow.
- Create folders for the categories you want — Tech, Music, Cooking, anything.
- Drag channels into your folders. A channel can live in multiple folders.
Add real folders to YouTube
FolderTube is free to install. Drag your subscriptions into folders and finally find what you actually want to watch.

The Chrome Web Store says 'Not compatible'
This means the 'Install Chrome Extensions' helper is not installed or is disabled. Go to opera://extensions to verify it is enabled, then refresh the Chrome Web Store page.
The purple button does not appear on YouTube
Refresh youtube.com after installing. If still not visible, check that FolderTube is enabled in opera://extensions and that no other YouTube-modifying extension is blocking it.
Sync does not pull all subscriptions
Make sure you are signed in to the right Google account on YouTube. The sync uses the YouTube account currently signed in.
Pricing on Opera
Pricing is identical to Chrome. Free plan: unlimited top-level folders, 30 Mark-as-Watched videos per month, 3 channel-video searches per day. Premium: subfolders, custom colors, unlimited Mark as Watched, unlimited channel video search — $2.99/month, $19/year, or $39 lifetime.
